Melissa Reyer - (One of our receptionists) with two of her cats, Indy (right) and Ace (left).  After a few rounds of cat nip, they were getting frisky and Indy started "boxing" with Ace, his favorite past time.

Melissa is originally from Connecticut but has been in Florida since 1992.  She has been working in the veterinary field during this time.  As most people in this field, she has aquired a number of animals.  She has three cats and two dogs and all but one cat has special needs.  Indy is hyperthyroid, Ace is an asthmatic.  One of her dog, Amber, was adopted with a broken leg, and has had hip surgery.  Her other dog, Buster, is an albino pit bull who is deaf.

Melissa and her dog Amber.  Amber was her "first born".  She adopted amber with a broken leg which never healed properly.  This led to severe arthritis and Amber would not use the leg.  She needed an operation to remove the head of the leg bone and alleviate the source of the pain.  Amber is once again a four legged dog.

Melissa and her deaf albino pit bull "Buster".  When Buster was a puppy, he was loaded with roundworms and was severly anemic.  The breeder wanted to euthanize him but she wanted to give him a chance.  He needed a blood transfusion and her other dog, Amber, happily obliged.  Buster made a rapid recovery and is now part of her family.  Since Buster is deaf, he has been trained to respond to hand signal commands.
